Karl Höfner, mästarviolinmakare, grundade företaget 1887 i Schönbach och blev snart den största tillverkaren av stråk- och sträng-instrument i Tyskland. Utomordentlig hantverksskicklighet och företagsamhet gav företaget snart rykte långt utanför landets gränser. När hans två söner Josef och Walter Höfner (bilden) gick med så startades deras exportverksamhet vilket ledde till mer utveckling och expansion av företaget och verksamheten flyttades till Bubenreuth. Sedan dess har över 2 miljoner instrument exporterats över hela världen. 
1997 så flyttade man till en ny modern anläggning i Hagenau där man fortsätter att producera instrument med hög hantverksskicklighet där tradition möter innovation.
Höfner har sedan början av 50-talet byggt hög-kvalitativa Jazz-gitarrer som attraherat proffs-musiker, gitarrentusiaster och samlare världen över. För att inte tala om den berömda violinbasen eller "Beatles-basen" (som den också kallas) som blev världsberömd efter nämnda grupps genombrott.

The Chancellor is a professional level instrument designed and constructed for the discerning player who is seeking a jazz guitar that produces naturally high acoustic volume levels coupled with good sustain characteristics and excellent overall tone. It is handmade in the Höfner workshops in Germany by the master luthiers. 

This 17" jazz guitar is made using fully solid maple woods which guarantees loud, sonorous tones. The top, which is hand carved, is made from selected narrow-grained spruce to produce extra sustain and further enhance the tone of this master instrument. The body features well domed arching which is brought to a flat level edge where it meets the body sides, this feature ensures that the top has a drum like quality to produce volume and tone. We fit the Chancellor with a Höfner "Diamond" Floating pick-up, set off the body and secured only to the end of the neck. This allows the whole of the top to move without interference from the pickup mounting. The pickup is controlled by volume and a tone knobs mounted on the ebony pickguard. 

The Chancellor is available two finishes. The Vintage Violin finish, applied by hand in the Höfner violin workshops by master finisher. The Natural finish version features a clear coat gloss lacquer that allows the stunning grain of the wood to show.  The bridge now has a  brass insert for added mass which in turn gives extra sustain and warmth.

This guitar is supplied in a Höfner Deluxe case.

Like all of the Hofner Verythin guitars, the Verythin Classic has a much smaller, thinner body profile than conventional semi-hollowbody guitars. In addition, it employs a hand-fitted solid spruce sustain block that does not use tone bars. These features reduce the potential for feedback, accentuate the tonal punch and attack, and preserve the guitar's acoustic qualities.

Hofner's Verythin Classic is at home in just about any musical milieu, from the introspective lament of jazz to the aggressive fire of rock. A German spruce top and flamed maple back and sides provide gorgeous tone and a create a regal backdrop for the Classic's elegant inlays and gold-plated appointments. Unique "Clear Contour" circuitry simulates the sound of both nearly-silent single-coil or humbucking pickups, thus enhancing the Classic's versatility.

HÖFNER  Galaxie  Contemporary Series

Galaxie Guitar is a model from the CT series, which is located within the electric guitar segment of the Hofner catalog. This series is dedicated to the six-string axes with vintage-styled looks and tone. Galaxie is one such instrument and it rocks a Strat-like double-cut body with a bolted maple neck. Body of this flat-top axe is made of alder, which together with the maple neck, forms a great base for a genuine rock tone. This double-cut rocker is available in Cream and Metallic Red colors. Both come with black pickguards, gloss finish and chrome hardware. Vintage-styled bridge section is made up of two pieces and it is fronted with a set of three minibucker pickups. 22-fret fingerboard is made of rosewood. 

In the 1960’s the Galaxie was one of the most popular guitars. The new Galaxie retains many of the original design features including 3 pick-ups with individual on/off switches to re-create the famous ‘60’s Höfner sound. Höfner Tremolo system. Metallic red (R) or White (W).

The Hofner Shorty was first produced back in the 1980s and Hofner continue to offer this compact travel guitar for those guitarists who can't bear to be without a guitar even when on holiday! The Hofner Shorty offers full scale length combined with such small overall dimensions that it can be taken anywhere. It fits easily into the overhead locker on most aircraft for example. Changing the strings on a Shorty guitar. It is necessary to remove the bridge to change the strings. Completey slacken all strings and remove from the tuners. Slacken the 2 large bridge retaining screws, pull back the bridge and lift it out. The old strings can now be removed and new strings attached to the underside of the bridge. Replace the bridge and gently tighten the 2 screws. The new strings can now be wound onto the appropriate tuners.

The Shorty bass offers 76cm (30") scale length (the same as the Violin and Club basses) combined with such small overall dimensions that it can be taken anywhere. The Hofner 500/1 'Cavern' Violin Bass takes it's name from the Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. Opened in 1957 this Club was one of the most important small clubs in Europe for bands trying to make it big in the Beatboom era. In 1960 the first beat night session was held featuring Rory Storm and the Hurricanes with Ringo Starr on drums and by mid 1961 the Merseybeat scene was in full flow with the Beatles and the Cavern Club centre stage.

Inspired by the original 1961 model which was purchased by Paul McCartney in Hamburg. Fully hollow body. Original '61 Neck profile.

HÖFNER  500/1  50th Anniversary Bass 

A limited edition of 150 basses was intended to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Violin Bass to the public in February 1956. The very first 50th Anniversary was presented to Paul McCartney by Hofner to mark his long association with the 500/1 model.

This anniversary bass is based on Paul's 1961 "Cavern" bass, and hence fitted with close-spaced "Cavern" pickups, a three-piece "fat" neck, single "catshead" tuners, and a vertical Hofner-logo headstock fascia. A solid carved spruce body top was also specified together with a one piece-domed back, and the whole package was rounded off by an engraved Anniversary pickguard and certificate of authenticity.

The Hofner Club Bass is inspired by the original Hofner 1965 model. This is the new double cutaway version and its body design provides ease of playability and delivers a true vintage sound with full deep bass tones from its fully hollow body and "Staple" pickups.
The top is now in selected Flame Maple making this a truly desirable instrument. Produced in an antique brown sunburst that compliments the nickel hardware.

Including a Hofner bullet case.

The Federal bass combines modern playability with the looks and coolness of 50s rock’n’roll. Created as a signature model for Budge Magraw of The Cesarians who wanted a large bodied bass but with the playability of the Violin Bass. It features a deep 5” (12.cm) body with arched spruce top and maple back and sides gives that authentic Höfner growl. Finished in stunning Hi-Gloss black.

Short scale maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays and vintage style tuners add to the 50s vibe. Two Höfner ‘Toaster’ pickups with volume and tone controls. Raven black finish. Includes case.

The Höfner 500/18 bass is inspired by large hollow bodied slimline basses that Höfner produced in the 1950s and 1960s. The 17 inch slimline body, with spruce top and flame maple back and sides, is fully hollow, no centre block is used, in order to produce the distinctive deep resonation tone that this type of bass guitar is famous for. Plugged in this bass delivers a deep thunderous sound that is likely to make eveything in the room vibrate, pictures to fall off the wall and the windows to rattle. Playing this bass makes a statement about you, your style and the sound you prefer. It's a big, classic bass with a big classic sound.
The neck is short scale, 30 inch, as is usual with Höfner basses, which together with the lightweight hollow body makes for very comfortable playing well into the night. No shoulder or back strain here. 
It is fitted with a pair of Höfner "Staple" 510B humbucking pickups, famously used on the Höfner 500/1 Violin Bass, as these deliver, in our opinion, the best possible sound for this type of bass. The gloss finish in Höfner Brunette, is subtle yet rich, a glowing burst just like the basses from yesteryear. Further information for the technically minded is on the specification tab.

The Contemporary (CT) version of the Hofner Club Bass offers the famous Hofner bass-sound in an alternative cutaway design. Inspired by the orginal Hofner Club Bass from the 1960s this electric bass guitar offers you the chance to own a piece of history with vintage looks and sound. Light in weight and easy to play with the 30" short scale neck. The Contemporary version is fitted with a centre block to help improve sustain and eleminate feedback. This model is fitted with original Hofner 'Staple-Top' pick-ups.

The Contemporary 500/5 (President) bass takes its design from the original 500/5 of the 1950s and 60s it is a fully hollow 16.5” wide body bass. It is fitted with a short 30” (76cm) scale neck making it easy to play despite the deep body. The bass now carries a pair of original Höfner “Toaster” pick-ups in combination with the original design Höfner control panel to ensure a great sixties style sound. The tailpiece is updated now to the long type and there is also a new headstock design. Nickel hardware. It is finished in brown sunburst (SB) or high gloss black. Hofner 'Staple-Top' pick-ups.
