Pickup System

The Channel Blaster pickup system was designed for slap bass players. This incomparable pickup system includes two separate pickup elements that are independently EQed and blended via the sipo hardwood Channel Blaster pedal. The wooden bridge pickup element mounts to the bridge wing with the included tension controller, allowing for mechanical tone adjustment and feedback control. The second wooden element is mounted under the fingerboard to reproduce the slap and organic percussion of your fingerboard. The single-ended class A preamp Channel Blaster foot pedal uses field effect transistors (FET) instead of the commonly used operational amplifiers. This gives a warmer, vacuum tube tone. Combined, this makes the most versatile, feedback resistant piezo bass pickup on the market.

Stereo pickup system. Blender/Preamp and EQ controls integrated into our African Mahogany tailpiece. Powered by one 9volt battery that is tucked away into the back of the tailpiece. Easy access for quick battery changes although it doesn't take much power to operate. The system powers up when you plug a guitar cable into it.
It comes with a bridge transducer and fingerboard transducer. Both have our new interchangeable cartridge system which allows you to unplug the pickup element and replace with cartridges tuned for different tones. The CBII comes standard with "H.O. Bass Max

The Bass Max is an upright bass transducer. It uses a "sandwich" design with two piezos layered together, one facing up and one down. This allows for a quick and simple wedge-mount into a bridge wing and ensures even transmission from the strings and from the body of the instrument.

The Bass Max is very sturdy and has a high output signal that is balanced over the whole tone range. It is suitable for both arco and pizzicato playing styles because it transmits a broader mid frequency range. This enables the musician to change playing modes without having to adjust the amplifier. The connection jack is held in place by a special attachment clamp mounted at the A and D strings between string-holder and bridge. The wrapped cable eliminates disturbance.

One Bass Max will evenly pick up the tone range of the double bass. It works very well with smaller bass combo amps.

Power Pack

The Pure Preamp is our time-tested external preamp, featuring +/-20 db bass and mid EQ -, and +/- 16 dB treble EQ controls plus an internal gain trimmer that allows you to adjust the gain from factor 0.5 (half as loud as input signal) to factor 10 (10 times as loud as input signal). This belt clip unit has been specifically designed for the frequencies of the acoustic guitar but it is also great for many other instruments.

The Pure Preamp features a special super wide band midrange filter, which is absolutely great in combination with the Pure pickups. Its simple and noiseless circuitry provides unsurpassed clarity and power and the internal gain trimmer allows you to dial in the precise amplification factor needed for your instrument.

Frequency response is 10-30,000Hz. The bass control is set to roll off at 100Hz, the midrange at 1.5kHz with extra large bandwidth and the treble are set at 10kHz. Input impedance is 1 meg and the output is low ohmic. Battery life is about 180+ hours.

On the rear of preamp are two 1/4" jacks (input and output). The output jack also doubles as battery switch, when unplugged it disconnects the battery when not in use.

The Bass Master Rockabilly is the first upright bass transducer system designed specifically for Rockabilly and slap bass. It combines two transducers (the Bass Max and a fingerboard pickup) to create an integrated double bass pickup system that brings out the percussive and subtle fingerboard sounds, as well as strong and warm bass tones. Each Bass Master Rockabilly can be fine-tuned via the separate bass and treble controls within the two-channel preamp, providing an infinite range of combinations for every player and any style of play.

The first component, the popular Bass Max, is positioned in the bridge wing. To make the Bass Max, we combine two transducers into a "sandwich" in order to maximize and enhance vibrations captured from the entire bridge. Only one Bass Max is necessary to provide an even signal from all four (or five) strings. Its strong midrange signal is ideal for cutting through the mix in loud Rockabilly situations, or providing a warm and supportive line for country bluegrass.

The fingerboard transducer's unique size and shape allows it to be precisely placed on your instrument. The preamp lets the player blend in just the right amount of slap, growl, and other fingerboard sounds to reach their audience. This allows the player to achieve the exact sound they desire.

The two-channel preamp has internal gain, bass, and treble trim pots for each pickup, allowing impressive +/- 20dB tonal adjustments. External volume controls let you balance the volumes of the bridge and fingerboard transducers on the fly. A convenient belt clip is included with this compact preamp, which weighs a mere ten ounces with the battery installed. 3000AE Preamp

This system includes the newer, updated version of the 3000AE preamp that replaces both the 3000A and the original 3000AE preamps. This preamp will automatically detect the type of pickup used, and will adjust itself to either an electret microphone or piezo input. When used with a pickup that requires a power source, the power source will be turned on automatically.

The Barcus-Berry 3000AE is specifically designed to work with all Barcus-Berry condenser electret microphone and piezo pickup systems. The 3000AE features external bass, treble and volume frequency controls to allow a wide range of adjustment. Includes a belt clip for unrestricted movement. Mic/pickup not included. Battery operated, does not provide or run on phantom power.

Note: The Barcus-Berry website and some of their online and printed instruction manuals may still have references to the 3000 or 3000A preamps. However, this preamp has replaced both of those preamps and is now shipping with all Barcus-Berry systems that include a 3000 series preamp. Barcus-Berry is currently working to update those references.
